Damaged Playstation 3, can I recover my data?

[ Edited ]

Hi I recently bought a new playstation 3 slimline due to my other ps3 slimline being struck by a lightning storm a few months ago. when you turn my old slimline on it switches itself off in a minute, so the motherboads been blown. But i am generally wondering, with my data on the broken ps3, could i take the hard drive out and place it in the new slimline and there wouldnt be any problems, im worried as this ps3 will mess up with a another hard drive being placed in the system. someone clarify and help me with this please as till im sure im not taking any chances.

Re: Playstation 3 slimline Hard drive

No it will not work.
Unfortunately you have lost all your offline data, UNLESS you backed it up before your old PS3 broke.

Luckily all ONLINE data is not lost.

When you create a user for your new PS3 choose the option 'USE EXISTING ACCOUNT'
Put in the relevant details.

You will find all your online information is safe including items you have bought from the PS store.
To get them back just redownload them.

To get your trophies back just resync

Re: Playstation 3 slimline Hard drive

All PS3 HDDS are paired to the console that formatted them. Inserting an HDD formatted by one PS3 into a completely different PS3 will result in you being asked to format the HDD. You can't bypass this. It's mandatory.
