I think I found the solution. I set the download to download in the background and then chose to turn off my PS3 but when the download and install has finished, this successfully downloaded and installed GT Academy.

I didn't see you say that I never changed DNS or anything

Yes it is a short term solution as I would like to download content normally instead of doing it so the PS3 turns itself off automatically after download and install. Still, at least I can get the DiRT Showdown demo

Everything I have downloaded today has installed no problemo. Looks like a self fix

Scratch that, I get the error with Max Payne 2, everything else installed lol

Decided to get Ghost Recon Beta again which had succesfully installed fine a few weeks back. I also get the error installing at 14% both with PS+ auto update and setting PS3 to turn off after installing.

I tried a quick format and still get the errorr. I tried to put one of my old HDD's in my PS3, one from my first PS3 and one unused from another PS3 however I cannot do anything as the PS3 doesn't recognise the latest firmware on my USB drive. To give my current HDD a full format will take 19 hours so no chance I am doing that.

I am guessing there is no solution?
