I have just been downloading various demos and games of varying sizes to see what happens when I install them.

At first I thought that anything over 2GB wouldn't install but I was obviously wrong looking at my results

GT Academy - 3021MB - Install Error

SSX Demo - 1329MB - Successfully Installed

Medieval Moves Demo - 2006MB - Successfully Installed

Kingdom of Amalur Demo - 2594MB - Successfully Installed

Maybe those over 3GB?

Reformatted my HDD which took a massive 18 hours to do and I still get the error, now most of my games are unplayable as it errors on installing the game updates. What a joke.

NEW UPDATE:

After a lot of fighting I finally got the new 160GB hard drive that originally came with my PS3 updated and I still get the install error. Now I am unsure if this is even a problem from my end or not as the hard drive was unused.

As the error is at 14% of the installation, I'd guess it's a problem with the PS3. I'm pretty sure you've done everything you possibly can though to solve this yourself, and gone a bit further than most would.

We had some German users experiencing this a few months ago and it turned out to be an issue with the router. 

The troubleshooting would be to first open the PlayStation 3 ports listed below.  You can get advice on how to do this from your router manufacturer if need be.

All games published by SCEE may use the following ports for communication with game servers:

• TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
• UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070

For PLAYSTATION Network:

• TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223
• UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658

You could also try putting your PlayStation 3 in a DMZ, which will have the same effect as opening the ports.

If the above does not work then please give me a shout and we can look into it further.

I'm with BT and not experiencing the issue. (Don't know if that helps at all, but there you have it )

It didn't work.

I don't really think it's an issue with ports or my internet connection, since i can do the download of the patch and the error happens during the instalation, always in 14%.

The point is that the install is failing because the file was incomplete when it downloaded.  Users who were having problems with this error before found that there were all with the same ISP and that the issue was with the ISP.

That said I am happy to raise this with the network team. 

Can you please confirm your ISP and all content that you are unable to install.

My ISP is Spanish I checked the Spanish forums and there are some with similar problems and one of the mods there gave a tech email so I emailed them and the two solutions they gave me are what I have already done.

Need to email them back as now COD4 get's the error (download version). I did manage to install KZ3 multiplayer in the end and GT Academy after about 8 downloads lol

Strange how it just suddenly started to happen and doesn't always happen. Hmmmm.
