I get this error when I'm trying to update my PS3 (or go on PSN)

It's a totally new PS3.

The internet connection works since I can use the browser.

I've tried wired and wireless.

I've opened all ports from http://faq.en.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/168/p/491/

I've tried setting it as DMZ.

What can I do?

When you run the internet connection test from the XMB, what results do you get back for each part of the test?

Now after a manual system update I get OK on both tests.

Though I still get this error when trying to enter PSN.

You could try a factory reset of the router to see if that'll help. Often the default settings work fine for PSN.

You could try setting the PS3 to download through a proxy server

Actually it started to work when I powered on the PS3 tonight, strange!

It worked randomly because it has absolutely nothing to do with your router or connection. It is clearly a PSN issue.
