Plus not play ps2 games :smileywink:

Which may or may not be an issue, depending on how many ps2 games you play :smileyhappy:

Re: 2) You DON'T want you data? (part 2)

Just for note, as it may influence your decisions... :smileyhappy:

As of today (17th Sept), Sony have launched the 320Gb PS3 Move Bundle.
This consists of a slim PS3 - no details as it if it is different internally to the 120/250Gb models - but with a larger HDD
The Move Bundle consists of the camera and a Move controller - which retails at circa £45 as a separate bundle (or more if bought separately)

Most stores have this Bundle for circa £265, and some places for as low as £240.

No current news as to if this is a limited time price.

Well thank you for this thread TTDegs.

My 60g launch model just YLOD'd after over three years of well ventilated, regular hoovering but HEAVY use.  I'd like to update folks with some details, just in case there's anyone in the same boat...

I was with continuous play, back in the day.  However I moved banks roundabout the time it was stopped and there was a mix up.  Domestic and General, who were running Continous Play when I joined, then offered their own breakdown service which I understood to be the same as continous play, and was working with Sony.  It isn't.  What this means in effect is that my console is going to a 3rd party repair house called 'Total Console Repair'.  DomGen informed me that they do not offer refurbs, and if the cost of repairs is too great they will simply replace my console with an 'equivelent' new one.

'Total Console Repair' require me to send the Ps3 back with the original hdd in it, so I'm resigned to losing my data (I'd upgraded to 320 gig).

I love my backwards compatibility and my extra usb slots, but I suspect that I'll get a replacement at this stage.  Either that or they'll do a short term fix.  I'm not sure about repair warranty but since its covered anyway we'll see..

I'll keep you posted as to what this process is like, for anyone else who is with DomGen.

Re: 2) You DON'T want you data? (part 2)

OK, an update on the DomGen/Total console repair service.  Total Console repair have taken nearly a week to repair my console, but it has been repaired and is on its way back.  I'm surprised actually, because I was expecting a replacement.  What is good is that they let you check your status online so you can check for developments.

I wonder, realistically, how long I can expect the old girl to last, but I presume its had a full reflow service.

Re: 2) You DON'T want you data? (part 2)

nice one! :smileyhappy:

Now the decision time hits - data transfer to new 320Gb Slim, or not... :smileywink:
(I'd suggest double checking if the cover can be transferred to a new PS3 first though)

Re: 2) You DON'T want you data? (part 2)

well I lost my data anyway ttdegs.  also I can't afford a slim so its a non starter.  I'll keep paying my cover and if it goes again they'll replace it for me.

Re: 2) You DON'T want you data? (part 2)

If they are sending you back YOUR repaired PS3, you will be able to just whack the 320Gb drive back in and away to go :smileyhappy:

Only if it's a replacement will it force a format :smileyhappy:
