Game Discs Won't Load ??

Hi,

Today I installed update 4.20. After this I played battlefield 3 for a few hours. However something strange then happened - I had no weapons or anything in-game. I then quit but the game froze, so I had to hit the ps home button and exit the game from there....After this my PS3 restarted but now none of my game discs will read ????

I haven't had any major problems with my PS3 in all the years I've owned it until this update ?

Can someone help me here ?

Thanks

Do DVD's and/or blu-ray movies work?

Re: Game Discs Won't Load ??

This is an absolute joke - Upon turning on my ps3 today to check if dvd's play, it just got stuck on the waves moving in the background. I had to turn it on and off again and then my user's appeared.

Anyways dvd's also won't play...... Clearly this update is stuffing the ps3 up because not only will my discs not read; my ps3 also had that problem when it turned on !!! Where's Sony's fix !!!

I am actually getting quite angry at forum members who are still telling people that it's just a coincidence that their systems are freezing / not functioning properly since the update.

Re: Game Discs Won't Load ??

Try going through ps3 safe mode options from 2-5 to see if they help.

Re: Game Discs Won't Load ??

You won't lose any data based on the options you choose. Those where you do you can easily back up.

People say it's sony's fault with every update, there are always these threads that pop up. Its almost always down to something going wrong with the user's during the update process as there is nothing in the update designed to harm your console. That would just be pointless. This is also evidenced by a majority of users that install the update successfully and have no issues at all so it can't be a Sony fault.

If your not willing to fix your issues then you'll have to live with them I'm afraid.

Re: Game Discs Won't Load ??

I take absolutely perfect care of my PS3. The 80GB model has no bugs unlike the old 60GB and 40GB models. There is absolutely no reason why the console should break for NO REASON AT ALL. My update installed perfectly and I did NOTHING that would break the PS3. The bugs with my system are clearly due to the update as I have never had any problems before & why now all of a sudden would I have had that startup issue AND the disc read issue.....A 30Mb game update also took about 10 minutes - 10x longer than usual after the update !

Now which options are safe to use ?

Re: Game Discs Won't Load ??

Besides the point but i am not aware of any bugs on the 60GB and 40GB models besides the obvious YLOD...

Here are the options you should try (in order)  with explanations on what they do:

Restore Default Settings - Performs the same operations as on the XMB™, and also deletes PlayStation®Network account information from the system.

Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered.

Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on screens, trimming information for pictures in , video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.

Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step. This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as on the XMB.

Re: Game Discs Won't Load ??

Seems then the only safe one is Restoring the file system....

The point is though; there is definitely a problem with this latest update that caused my game to freeze and this problem to occur....Trust me, I am not an idiot, I know how to properly update my system, so why on Earth would I all of a sudden have this problem in 4 years.....I even saw another post with my exact same problem of how bf3 froze (the game sort of glitched and my weapons wouldn't appear) with the same result - discs not reading.....

So if restore file system does not work ? then what ? Sony needs to sort this out !!!
