tried playing cod, it turns on fine and the as soon as i sign in to psn, the screen goes black and then back to menu. its not the disk as it works fine without the internet. have tried restoring and it still doesn't work, any suggestions?

Check and see if you have any Torrenting software, frostwire, uTorrent, bitTorrent, Ubuntu update centre etc running on any of the computers around the house. If you do, disable and close it all, then try again.

nah i don't have stuff like that, plus it works with some games, just tried black ops and it works fine, then mw2 doesn't work...

Try deleting your game data from the game data utiltiy, then redownloading it when you next run the game. That may help too.

EDIT: Brothers, sisters, parents, kids etc could all be using torrenting software, make sure you're positive. Also, other people in the house playing the same game at the same time can cause it to do that.

that got deleted when i restored my ps3. I'm at uni so there are others on the network using that stuff, but it has worked here fine before, just not sure whats changed.

The people sharing with you might not necessarily have been doing it before but may have started now. The data is recreated when you first play the game and is added to each time an update comes out so undoubtedly there's gonna be some now.

As you're at uni, using their network you're a bit stumped if they've blocked it. Most unis block the entire PSN and Xbox live, or even make it so that the PS3 can't be connected to the system at all.
