ok tried option 2 and FIFA actually improved. got 2/3 of the way through before it started skipping then it had another spell at 84 mins. now its improving? i dont understand. gonna do option 5 now

I recommend trying Rebuild Database and Restore File System before you try Updating or Restoring the PS3.

all my data has been backed up already so i dont have issues with losing anything but i'll follow the order.

i'll let you know how i fair later on

If the data is corrupt, then backing it up and restoring it may well leave you the same issue, so it's worth trying the other two first

yeah i have been trying all this on a completely formatted hard drive. did all the safe mode things. same issue again. losing my mind here so last try at something. found a samsung drive to put into the ps3 and have taken out the original. i figure if this one works then the ps3 is ok, and my drive is stuffed - so not an issue for me. otherwise it could well be the blu ray like you said and that makes me a sad panda

for anyone who is wondering ps3's use Toshiba drives. put in a samsung my dad had lying around. played two full games (of 10 minute halves) of FIFA and not one skip or jolt or freeze at all. so i suspect it is a faulty hard drive after, which is relieving.

im having the same exact problem, but when you say this do you mean that you installed a new blu ray drive? and that fixed the issue?

He installed a new hard disk drive to resolve the issue.

If you believe you have the same issue, you could check to see if you have a Toshiba drive by opening the drive cover and removing the drive (While the PS3 is off.)

The drive cover on old PS3 models is on the bottom/left, and the SuperSlim is on the right hand side.

okay so i kind of have the same problem lol. the game play is just fine, however when it does a cut scene then its stars skipping and lagging, is it the same problem?
