HDMI no supported signal

Hi All,

my first post here so please excuse any noobish queries. The problem I have is I've recently moved one of my PS3's to a different room with a different 1080p tv and I'm getting a "no supported signal" message from the tv when I connect via HDMI (works fine on scart). I have tried the following:

1. Four different HDMI leads

2. Holding the power button for 5 seconds while PS3 is in standby mode

3. Holding the power button until the PS3 beeps twice (this brings up a menu enabling factory reset etc).

4. Unplugging everything for ten minutes then reconnecting everything (tried this loads)

5. Changing the resolution while connected via scart then switching to HDMI

6. Tried on the old telly again, and one downstairs (works fine on both)

7. Bought an HDMI switch but then I get a "no signal" message instead.

Short of buying a PS3 component lead, I've now run out of things to try. As mentioned above, the only time I can get any display via HDMI at all is holding the power button until the PS3 beeps twice, but I can't see anything in the resulting menu that would help. Is this an HDMI handshake issue? If so, how can I get around it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm tearing what little hair I have left out (btw, the tv is a crappy Foehn & Hirsch).

Thanks in advance,

Tim.

Re: HDMI no supported signal

Try factory resetting the TV in its settings menu. Also, some TVs have 1080p disabled on some ports by default. Have a fiddle in there and see if you have any luck.

Try another HDMI port on the tv too if possible.
Finally, it may be that either you are very unlucky and have 3 crap cables, or the tv might not actually support 1080p. Try enabling 1080i instead or even 720p only and see if you have any luck.

Re: HDMI no supported signal

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've tried factory resetting twice, both HDMI ports on the tv and all resolutions too (even 576i as that was the resolution that the factory reset menu was displayed in). I've just tried another HDMI lead and still no change (all of the leads I've tried work with my other PS3 on the main tv downstairs too)

Any other ideas? Or is it possible this tv is not going to work with either of my PS3s no matter what I try?

Re: HDMI no supported signal

As it's affecting two PS3's that work fine elsewhere, I would think the problem lies with the television. I'm not sure what could be the cause though :smileyfrustrated:

Re: HDMI no supported signal

i have the same issue with the same 32" f&h tv today.

All i get is "no signal" no matter which hdmi port i use.

It will not connect to my ps3 with any hdmi cable.

However.. i used another playstation3 with the same HDMI cable and it worked fine.

My ps3 works fine on another tv with the same cable..

also the other ps3 i used has NOT been updated to the latest software version and works fine on my tv.

Mines HAS been updated to the latest version and doesn't work on my tv but works on another one

.

so it's not the tv, the HDMI cable or the ps3..

Figure this one out and provide me with an answer please.

Re: HDMI no supported signal

Try a display reset by starting with the PS3 in standby mode, then pressing the front power button until the system beeps for a second time.

This should force the PS3 to redetect the display settings on startup and prompt you that it wants to detect the resolution.

Re: HDMI no supported signal

i reset the ps3 (1) back to original settings via safe mode.

i've formatted the HDD too and the problem is still with the hdmi.

when connected with scart, it detects the hdmi cable, but when i select the option and change the correct channel, the screen is blank and nothing works.

I did manage to get the cable to work after 2 hours, but it's flickering like mad.

now the ps3 (1) works on a smaller 22' tv with 720p and can change it to 1080p but the screen goes crazy (because the tv is hd ready and not full hd)

my other ps3 (2) i mentioned has the update now and works fine on the 32' full hdtv with the same hdmi cable.

could it be a hdmi port failure on the ps3 (1)?

the ps3 (1) was baught from tescos on 1/11/11 and is outside of warranty, so any suggestions would be welcomed.

i have been offered a 1 off repair, but considering this device should last more than 13 months.. i would assume that i would be entitled to a replacement?..

Re: HDMI no supported signal

If everything works fine on other TV's then it is your TV that is the problem.

Re: HDMI no supported signal

no.. the 32" tv works fine with ps3 (2).. and i've connected the hdmi from tv to laptop and that works fine too.

the issue is with the ps3 hdmi port and the 12 month warranty doesn't help much. you can't expect a ps3 to last for only 12 months. it's ridiculous.

surely they're built to last at least 3!

Re: HDMI no supported signal

I'm afraid fi is probably right. Unless it works with a different HDMI cable, your TV is probably faulty.
