Re: How do I troubleshoot the DUALSHOCK3/SIXAXIS wireless Controller?

[ Edited ]

If your DUALSHOCK3 or SIXAXIS controller stops working or develops a fault then there are several things you can do to try and correct the problem.

Resetting the controller:

Locate the small reset button on the bottom of the controller, near the L2 button.

Using a small, unfolded paper clip or a similar item, push the button inside the tiny hole.

After this reconnect the controller to your console via the USB cable and press the PS button.

Vibration feature not working on your DualShock 3:

Please note that the vibration function needs to be switched on, this can be done under Settings > Accessory Settings > Controller Vibration Function > On

Also the vibration feature is only supported on certain titles, so make sure that the game you are playing supports the DualShock 3 controller.

Additional troubleshooting:

Verify if the SIXAXIS or DualShock 3 wireless controller works with the USB cable.

Verify that the SIXAXIS or DualShock 3 wireless controller's battery is charged.

Try resetting the PS3 by turning it off and then back on.

Attempt to pair the SIXAXIS or DualShock 3 wireless controller to another PS3 system.  This helps determine whether the problem is with the system or the controller.

Attempt to connect another SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller to the PS3.

Move closer to the PS3 system. The maximum range for Bluetooth is 30 feet.

Make sure you have less than seven Bluetooth peripherals paired with the PS3.

Unplug any other USB device plugged into the system when pairing the SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller.

Still not working?

If after going through the above troubleshooting your controller is not working then unfortunately it may be necessary to replace your controller.  If the faulty controller is the one which came with your console the you can contact PlayStation Support to obtain a replacement under your 12-month warranty.

Alternatively if your faulty controller was purchased separately from your console then return to your retailer where you have a 12-month warranty.
