Re: MESSAGE FOR A MODORATOR - UNABLE TO SEND PRIVATE MESSAGE.

FAO RabidWalker,

apologies in having to reply in this way without properly quoting your text, but I'm afraid I am unable to because what I have also found is that the quote box with someone's text in it uses the same thousand characters or so that I have to use.

I can effectively only quote someone if what they have sent is only a few lines long. If it is a long piece of text it even cuts off the end of what they have said.

In addition |'ve found that none of the boxes above where you type a reply i.e. Bold, Italics, Underline etc., work properly and if I click on the tree icon to insert a picture, it actually crashes my PS3 and then wants to send a report back to Sony and then has to restore the file and this happens everytime if I click on the picture icon.

I am very unhappy with this situation, especially since cables came with my PS3 making my CRT TV compatible ostensibly with the PS3!

But I must stress, I did at least have the functionality of the PM system before and at the very least,

The forum software unfortunately isnt compatible with PS3 browsers as it's a lot newer and more up to date than it. The browser is rather terrible, so I'd recommend using Chrome or Internet Explorer on your PC, or something like an iPod or iPad to browse :smileyhappy:

Edit: I missed your reply on the last page. Sorry. Of you've got a phone or decent other device you might have more luck with the forum.

would like to get this rectified, but would be grateful if you could look into the other problems I have mentioned.

I am most concerned about the lack of advisory messages. If there are incompatiblities and/or 'limitations' with the fact I have a lower-resolution TV, why aren't these clearly defined with error and/or advisory messages.

For example when my PS3 crashes for whatever reason, absolutely nothing comes up on the screen to give me any indication as to what the problem was.

If however, I am using my DVR recorded with built in Freeview channels & I try to watch a channel that is only available for HD customers, it clearly tells me so with a notice before programmes commence & then I get an advisory message saying 'scrambled' when they actually are transmitting as I don't have an HD setup and everything is transparent and clear.

This sadly, doesn't seem to be the case with my PS3.

I look forward to your comments at your earliest possible convienence.

Sorry Strangeplaice, I didn't understand your edit in your last reply. Regarding the phone, I am just trying, probably to no avail to get RabidWalker to have a conversation with me on the phone.
This whole forum process is so painfully slow & the PS3 phone helpdesk don't seem to want/can't liase with the forum moderators.
It's all this 'non-customer-facing' bit, which I totally disagree with & don't think is very good customer service, although I do appreciate it is efficient to have a printed record; the phone is just easier sometimes. Please can you re-explain what you meant in your edit - thanks.

Re: MESSAGE FOR A MODORATOR - UNABLE TO SEND PRIVATE MESSAGE.

They probably aren't in the office yet! :smileytongue: it's 7:45am. Also, Rabid etc can't be contacted by phone, if you call customer support you'll be forwarded to a call centre who probably can't help.

I was stating in my edit that you may be able to use the forum more successfully from a smartphone rather than the PS3

Just seen your reply thanks - me without smartphone or PC - me just has PS3.
Here's a thought - why don't they just make the broswer work properly. I cannot understand why a reputable company like Sony, always at the cutting edge of technology incorporated a browser into their game console that was and is so hopelessly limited in what it can do as an interface with the internet.
I quote here what a moderator from chess.com said to me about the PS3 browser, whilst I was trying to use their site, I emphasise the word 'trying', being as I couldn't play chess on Playstation's HOME since it was down for yet another maintenance cycle.

Re: Playstation 3 -- The problem is that Sony didn't add Flash 9 compatability until10 came out... Java is horribly outdated and there are still plenty of bugs on it.Users have been asking for a new browser other than the Netfornt browser (used forcell phones) for over 3 years now. It's safe to say that Sony has abandoned the webbrowser unfortunately. It's fine for normal browsing but flash is iffy and javadepends on where you go.

Why do Sony seem to have so little respect for their customer base - especially considering that this year they have made a loss of $6.4 billion - how does it make good economic sense to treat their customers this way? At the very least should they not be 'fast-tracking' a solution to these browser problems.

The PS3 games console on the whole is a very nice piece of kit - but why incorporate this ridiculous browser - it just doesn't make any sense?

Re: MESSAGE FOR A MODORATOR - UNABLE TO SEND PRIVATE MESSAGE.

I wouldn't go as far as saying they have no respect. Chances are they're tied into a contract with NetFront and their crap browsers, which would explain why the vita uses it. The Flash compatibility will probably never be upgraded though as flash is slowly being phased out.

Really what they need is the PS3 and Vita updated to include a more HTML 5 compliant browser. It may come eventually but we'll never know for sure.

Yes, I heard this about HTML versus Flash. Good job - Flash has been a pain in the rear end for as long as I can remember - from our PC when we had one working to my Nokia C3 to finally our PS3 - awful software!

Re: MESSAGE FOR A MODORATOR - UNABLE TO SEND PRIVATE MESSAGE.

Hi Logic,

I have raised this with the relevant department and they have advised me that there is currently an incompatibility between the PS3 browser and the PM function on the Forums.

They are aware of what the issue is, and are looking into a potential fix for this going forward. I haven't received any specific time frame for this but they have advised me they will let me know when there is further information.

Therefore as soon as I am made aware of any updates in this area I will let you know.

Thanks,

Rabid
