Is anyone else experiencing issues with big downloads from PSN?
I got Max Payne yesterday, and left it downloading overnight only to find it stopped at 1%
I've restarted it several times, and it seems to download 50mb or so and then stop every time

Are you able to use the PSN for online play etc, without issue?

I did manage to download smaller games yesterday, and I have just been into Playstation Home without any issues

Try entering safe mode by turning the PS3 off, then holding power till it turns on then off again.

Wait another 5 seconds, then hold power until the PS3 double beeps. (BEEPBEEP, rather than BEEP)

Follow the on screen instructions and then when faced with the safe mode menu, choose "Rebuild Database", then repeat and choose "Restore File System".

I paniced there as i read that as "Restore PS3" initially, which obviously deletes everything

I may see if i have a spare HDD and take a backup just in case - and then i'll try your suggestion later in the week. Thanks!

Restore File System and Rebuild Database will only remove data that can't be used anyway so you're pretty safe using both

That didn't solve it sadly
It did say my file system was corrupt and would be fixed, but I did it twice with the same message.
I have since managed to download other games however.

If the problem appears again, would a backup and restore to a new HDD solve it? I'm assuming it's a bad sector on the disk?

The corrupt error is a standard message. The message is displayed whether corruption exists or not. It might help, and is worth a try as it's the next option on the safe mode list. You're best to perform the backup via the PS3, then "Restore PS3 System" from safe mode if you're gonna give that a try.

Note that doing so can take upto two days to complete with a large hard drive. Normally bad sectors are simply ignored by the system if they can't be repaired. It may resolve the problem simply formatting the existing one and restoring to it.

Did a full restore from backup today, and Max Payne still not downloading.
Found a couple of other users online with exact same issue. Is it something with our accounts, or the download server we are allocated to??

More news on this problem.

I tried downloading the file WITHOUT using background download, and i gor error 80710723, which looks like the connection to the download server has timed out or been dropped.

I've tried everything i could find on the net, including turning off media servers, upnp, opening specific ports and putting PS3 in the DMZ on my router. Still no joy.

I set my laptop up as a proxy server and found the actual Max Payne download link, which points to the server "zeus.dl.playstation.net". Trying to download this file manually on the laptop also causes it to stop at the same place.

This makes me think its something to do with this particular download server. Is there a cluster of them out there, with different ones being assigned to different countries or something? Is there anything i can do to try and use a different one?

Its starting to affect nearly all of my large downloads now (Darksiders, AC demo, Litle Big Planet 2, etc). I'm paying for the extra PSN service, but now cant really use it...
