My PS3 overheats in about a minute but its not hot and recently fixed of YLOD

Hello,

my ps3 has recently suffered from YLOD and has been fixed by a friend - it was fine for a week but now when i turn the system on straight away the fan builds to max speed quickly and then there is an error message that the system is overheating and then turns off a few seconds later and the system is cool - the message has been coming on for the last 5 days or so and the time between the error message and turning itself off has become less and less till now a few seconds.

I have read messages in the forums about using certain thermal paste and to clean the ps3 but i trust my friend used good paste and has cleaned it perfectly but this problem does seem to have occured after it was fixed.

Please help

Thanks

Getting a little sick and tired of having to fix my ps3 - putting me off ever buying from sony again to be fair - seems like their console systems last just long enough to cover warranty then die - not good enough

Re: My PS3 overheats in about a minute but its not hot and recently fixed of YLOD

Did your friend use the hair-dryer trick? If so, that'd explain the problem.

Fixing YLOD in that way is only a temporary solution and is used to backup all your data to restore onto a new PS3.

If he's done this he's probably fried the internal thermostat which is now stuck thinking it's too hot and regardless, the console needs replaced.

These things are tiny and located in various places on the system. They probably vary with each type of PS3 too.

As the console has been opened up, there could be all sorts of things wrong or introduced which makes it incredibly difficult to diagnose :smileysad:

Thankyou for your reply - really disappointing to hear that tho - and has seriously put me off getting another ps3 or any sony product to be honest
