PlayStation®3 Technical Help

Just purchased a 2.5 inch hard drive this morning it came early on got it from Amazon. Its a Seagate Momentus 5400 250 gb SATA hard drive. I backed up my ps3 to my external hard drive and then went to proceed and install the new hard drive, i done that fine turned on the Ps3 it asked  did i want to reformat the new drive i said yes it started doing the reformat it got to 99 percent and then nothing. i waited for a good 40 mins and still nothing. In the end i have had to put my old ps3 hard drive back in and that is working fine. Any ideas on why the new drive isnt reformatting properly. Ive spent £40 on this new hard drive. Im on the latest update to 4.21. I have fat Ps3 60 gb.

Have you put it back in and tried to format it again? It is possibly an issue with the HDD, if you can you can also try an external caddy and format through a PC (then put it back in the PlayStation 3 to try?

I did try yesterday to take out the hard drive and try again and it got to 1 percent then froze on screen for about 30 mins, saying reformatting please do not turn of system. With regards to trying to format it using a pc i wouldnt know where to start im not technically up on that stuff. At the moment i have my old hard drive back in the ps3 and its working fine.

It does sound like a faulty drive, particularly as it can still read your original drive. I would just get Amazon to replace it

You need to format the hard drive FAT32!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU CAN DO THIS ON YOUR MAIN COMPUTER.

Just an update i phoned Sony went through a few questions with them in the end it still wont read the new hard drive so i have phoned amazon and i am returning the product and getting a refund, i have been told to get a Samsung Spinpoint they seem to be good. With regards to my laptop i formatted that to fat 32 for my external hard drive so thats been done and i backed up my ps3 before i tried the new hard drive in the ps3.
