New powersaving options 4.20

Well this problem is nothing compared to what i have read about til now, but anyways, seems since last update where they changed the powersaving options they have not worked for me as they used to, normaly my ps3 would turn off like a hour after a movie had ended, but now it would turn off in the movie if im just watching it, unless i move my controller.

Once the movie is done it wont turn off at all and just stay at the black pause screen, even if its set to turn off after 1-2 hours of inactivity.

So anyone else had that problem at all?

Re: New powersaving options 4.20

It's not a fault, it's by design. Quite frankly the new Power Save settings in 4.20 are a poor choice and a step backwards......as usual for Sony. They have removed the most useful part of the power save feature. You now cannot idle on the xmb and have the system shutdown after 1 hour without be plagued by stupid shutdown reminders during a bluray that's longer than 1 hour. Prats.

You could always turn the option off...

Yeah tbh I've just turned the power save off. Don't really leave the ps3 on enough to need it.

Re: New powersaving options 4.20

Have always used the 1 hour idle as a cooldown period.  Given that my PS3 is used daily for extended periods of time for gaming, it is never a good idea to stress the hardware by forcing a instant shutdown while things are hot.

It was a useful feature.....which I may have found a way around but it has killed off my participation on GT5 remote or b-spec races.  The only way to achieve the XMB Idle shutdown is to enable the (Game/Other) power save option.  Of course when active it will shut down the PS3 while in game.

Why don't Sony think before acting? :smileysad:

Re: New powersaving options 4.20

In my opinion this was an aweful choice by sony. Now wverytime I watch a film I need to get rid of that stupid reminder saying the system will turn off. And I normally use the option because sometimes I forget to turn of the system or I walk away and forget it was left running.

Bring back the old special conditions option Sony!

Re: New powersaving options 4.20

netflix has bypassed the power save settings on playstation 3 PSN.  i discovered this recently when i wake up & i find my playstation did not shut down, every morning, ran all night long.  i also discovered my electric bill appeared to be higher.  i called PSN  about this issue and they referred me to netflix.  Netflix told me yes, they changed it to help streaming issues .  i never had streaming issues before.  i asked them if they will be correcting this issue & they said no, unless more people call with the same complaint the techs will not do anything.  call them at 1 866-579-7172.  i just don't understand why they want to wait for the puddle to become a flood, amateurs.

Hi there,

Have you tried checking the Power Save Settings, there are exceptions that can be set so it turns off for the 'System Auto- Off' .

The options are:

Video/TV/Music/Photo and Game/Other Features, have you set these up for each one (set to time period)?

This should be turning of after a period of being in idle.

Rabid
