My problem is when I press the PS button to do whatever I need to whilst on a game i.e message people, check who's online etc. it seems that the screen which is up from pressing the PS button vanishes and leaves me back on the game I was on - Without sending my message or letting me finish what I was trying to do. It litterally cancels the message and pretends like it never happened.

You can see how this would be frustrating for me as i'm someone who types a lot of messages with my keyboard that I have plugged in.

This has only started happening since I took my PS3 and controllers round to a friends house a few days ago. I have also had no problems with my PS3 in the past and have used it many hours a day since christmas 2009.

At first I thought that the PS button was sticking but that isn't the case as I tried with my other controller and it still cancels the PS button screen. So i'm left wondering, is this my PS3 being faulty or is it both my controllers and also is this problem out of my control.

Just looking for any answers and also any other people out there experiancing the same problem as me. I really hope this isn't the beginning of an end for my PlayStation

All very odd as it's both controllers, which rules out the sticky-button syndrome as you so rightly pointed out.
Is it on ALL games, even PS Home?

Possibly a 'Rebuild Database' option on the PS3's recovery menu might help. This (amongst other things) replaces any corrupt system files.

Humm this is a very strange one.  There is another user with the exact same issue so will escalate this.

Once I get some feedback from the relevant team I will update this thread.

Turns out it isn't on all games and only happens on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, which is a shame really as I do play that game a lot and need to message people on it the majority of the time.

I will have a look at the 'rebuild database' option later, am I right in assuming it won't damage/delete anything from my PS3?

This started happening to me about 2 days ago and then my friend last night said it was happening to him aswell. From the sounds of it i dont think its a ps3 error but maybe something to do with MW3, it's just weird how it has only started to happen and by the sounds of it, it is affecting a few of us. It usually will only stay on for about 30 seconds max and then as you said it just goes "oh i see you want to write a message....NOPE" and then just shuts it self off. It seems to me that the HDD light always flashes just before it goes off as it would when ever you move on the XMB, it's basicly like its refreshing itself. Hopefully the guy's at PSN can look into this and im pretty sure that it is only MW3 that it effects me on, so maybe some sort of patch needs to be released?

Yeah there are now 3 threads on this (I have redirected them here) issue, I have let the team know that its only on MW3 so hopefully will have a fix soon.

Ahh good to know it's not my PlayStation being faulty. Glad to see others have the problem aswell. I'm sure it will get fixed soon enough

this is rediculous man all my friends got this problem. someone told me if you delete the 4.11 update then re-update it fixes the prob but i cant do that because its already backed up 4.11 so now i think we all got to wait for new update.

but for some reason it has only just started literally in the last 2 - 3 days, no idea why, lets just hope PSN or MW3 put a patch out to fix this issue. i understand it will take time to create the patch or get rid of whatever this bug is but hopefully within the next week!
