Hope someone can help please?
Today i was playing MW3 and everything was fine until all od a sudden the game froze while playing. I assumed it was something to do with the connection. during the freeze the system did not allow to switch off via the controller or even the power button, the only way was to disconnect the power supply.
after disconnecting the power supply and turning it back on again i realised that the ps3 system was not loading anything on the tv screen [no signal on an LG tv]... took a while but i managed to get it started up [after again disconnecting the power supply and waiting bout 2/3mins] this time however the XMB didnt load on screen it jus showed the wallpaper... took a few more tries until i managed to actually get it started up fully but really slow to load the xmb.
i then tried MW3 and got an error messge advising that the save data for MW3 was corrupted and needed to be deleted [which i did] but this made no difference... i eventually got fed up and called PS3 support and they went through the usual holding down the power button and waiting for the beeps etc etc.. which i followed but made not difference after trying a 'file system restore'.
my next option was to restore the system to factory settings which i did and again still having the same issues. basically seems like the system is starting ok now but when i play games watch movies it freezes and requires me to remove power supply in order to restart.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this and solution. I have been told by sony that it may possibly be a corrupt hard drive????

Hi zoolan2010,
I'm glad your console now appears to be working, let me know how you get on or if any of the issues mentioned persist.
As fi8767 states, if the console does freeze during a game and you are unable to power down the console via the controller or power button- it would not be advisable to pull the plug out and cut the power.
You should be able to hold the power button down on the console, it may take longer then usual but eventually the console will beep and it will force a shutdown of the console. Withdrawing the power can cause damage to the HDD, and most likely caused a corruption of the saved data for your game.
If you have removed the power cable, and there is an issue with the HDD- I would advise going through Safe Mode and restoring the file system as you have suggested.
