PS3 HDD can't find the HDD

I was hoping to never post in this forum at all however it looks like my time has come :smileyindifferent:

My PS3 has a HDD fault. It started by the system telling me to restore the system i did that and now it won't start. Can't find the HDD it a slim 250Gb standard HDD.

So how does one go about and fix that ?

I been told to open it up and put the HDD back in see if the wires are loose.

Start the PS3 in recovery mode. (googled)

How to Access Playstation Recovery Menu

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

If you have a back up you could try the HDD full reformat . but you will need the firmware on a USB stick to reinstall to the HDD...

If that menu can't recover your HDD, you will likely need another HDD.

If the HDD has a real fault you won't be able to recover the HDD and you will need a replacement HDD drive.

The only way to fault find to ensure its only the HDD is to replace the HDD and run the system for a while with the new HDD drive with very limited content on that drive to ensure the PS3 chips are not causing the HDD failure with bad write data.

Do not put the back up on the new drive yet as data could be corrupted if you backed up a failing drive.

After enough time of testing days restore your back up to the new HDD.If it fails instantly after the back up the backup is corrupt.

Thanks

I took out the HDD put it back in. It started but won't run due to the FW.

Going to download the FW and reinstall i hope that fixes it over a new HDD.

Hope it nothing else on the PS3 and just the HDD.
