PS3 Slim freeze when installing game, will this damage the console?

The new slim froze on 95% installing splinter cell, I had to shut the power off as it would not shut down using the 10 second power off function. It came back saying there could be damage and it could take upto 3 hours to rebuild. it took less than 2 minutes. How do I find out if the hard disc is damaged?

This shouldn't damage your hard drive at all. The restore process just checks for any problems caused by the crash and fixes them. When you get back to the XMB you will find the game installer is still there meaning that what was installed has been deleted and you can try again to install.

 

If the install fails more than a few times then delete the installer and redownload the item.
