PS3 Update 4.20/4.21 Error Code '8002F997'

Hi, can anyone help me?

I haven't been on my ps3 in a while now so it's still at 4.11!

I recently set it back up and found that there was a new update (4.21) I tried to update and keep getting the error code '8002F997' :smileysad: I've searched round the forums and found a few things to try and all have failed! :smileysad:

I've tried downloading the update to an external usb (PSP) and updating that way, Failed!!!

I've tried entering safe mode and updating from usb again, Failed!!!

I've tried quick format of hdd and tried updating, Failed!!!

I've tried full format of hdd and tried updating, Failed!!!

I've tried updating to 4.20 from usb, Failed!!!

Nothing seems to be working :smileysad: and now after all that messing around and time wasted i'm left with my playstation plus going to waste, no trophies (not able to sign into PSN) and not being able to do anything PSN wise!!! :smileysad:

Any help will be much appreciated! :smileyhappy:

Re: PS3 Update 4.20/4.21 Error Code '8002F997'

Are you getting the update via your local playstation website? e.g. uk.playstation.com for the UK.

Also, have you got the correct folder structure for updating via USB?

Yes i've downloaded the update from the uk.playstation.com website.

I have the correct folder structure as i've updated via usb before.

When updating via ps3 it gets to about 55-60% then gives the error code 8002F977

When updating via usb it gets to about 65-70% then gives the error code 8002F977 :smileysad:

It sounds like there is a fault with your PS3. Call up sony customer support and explain what you've been experiencing and  they should be able to help you further.

Re: PS3 Update 4.20/4.21 Error Code '8002F997'

8002F977 indicates that the firmware file is corrupt. And seeing as you've tried downloading it to your PS3 and PC, then the culprit is your broadband connection.

Have you tried rebooting your modem and router? If you have done this, and still getting the 8002F977 error, then there's an issue with your ISP. Try downloading the firmware at a friends house, or at work, or even at the local library and see how that goes.

Thanks OrdosAlpha :smileyhappy:

I looked into my internet connection and found that it was my wireless router that was causing the problem!

I've replaced it with a new one and have finally been able to update my ps3 :smileyvery-happy:

I had a feeling it might have been an internet problem as i cudn't download from itunes either!

Many thanks mate :smileyhappy:
