Hey there,
Firstly, I'll apologise in advance if there is a similar thread on this. I tried searching around but I couldn't quite find what I was looking for...not to mention the quantity of threads to sift through as I am a first timer here. I'll also provide as much information as I can to avoid silly posts like 'hey, did you have the thing on in the first place, is it connected to a tv? derrrr' lol....so excuse the long post:
So, I have a PS3 Slim (160GB...pretty sure), I've had it for about 1.5 yrs, haven't really played it since January this year, started playing it again at the end of June, never had a problem with it til this week.
I'm playing Fallout: New Vegas at the moment, and all of a sudden after playing for a while, the game starts lagging (music stops and starts every few seconds, all menu's are super laggy, etc). Sure, I might have been playing for several hours, but I've had it stay on all day in the past without a hitch.
Additionally, my PS3 isn't turning off properly. At first, it would take like a minute to turn off (rather than say a few seconds) then beep 3 times before it turned off. Now it's not turning off at all; the controller turns off, the screen blacks out (all normal) but the green power light keeps blinking, and the fan is running. I could leave it forever and it won't turn off. So I have to turn it off at the switch. Naturally, I don't like this, something has to be wrong?
I'll also throw in that I've got the latest firmware update, and that the orange light blinks A LOT when it's lagging, and when it's turning off (which it isn't). And every time except the last time, I can't hold down the power button to turn it off manually. The only thing I can do is eject the game...hooray. Also, I decided I should give my PS3 a good feel before posting this, and turns out it's pretty warm at the back left corner when you're facing it...where the fan is I guess. But again, I've had it on for hours and hours in the past and never had a problem...it's annoying that its suddenly doing this...I look after it and keep it dust-free.
THANK YOU for any help! I'd really appreciate it.
tl;dr: ps3 wont turn off properly. plz help ![]()

Bethesda developed games like Fallout and Skyrim are well known for issues. First thing to try would be to re-install the game data in the Game Data Utility folder just above the trophy and save data tabs. Delete the Fallout 3 data and run the disk again. Any additional purchased content will need to be re-downloaded from your download list. One trick that's worked for myself with Skyrim is create a fresh manual save exit game restart system and continue with that fresh save.

Thanks for the reply. If I were to reinstall the game data...would I lose my saved game files too, or is that separate? (sorry, I haven't done this before)...but I wouldn't have thought it's an issue with the game per se, I only mentioned the game so I could describe how it's lagging...but hey, that's why I'm here, I'm not an expert.
I have both Fallout games and the other one never did something like this before...hmmmm...
Any ideas re excessive orange light blinking, and the PS3 not turning off?

You won't lose save data re-installing the game that's stored separately in the Save Data Utility. The constant flashing light will probably be the harddrive light flashes more when it's being accessed. The video in the link below may help. Option 3 restore file system and option 4 rebuild database if problems persist often help.

Thanks for that, I might give it a go.
For future reference, or for the lurkers out there with a similar problem, I'm starting to think it might just be an overheating problem, I played it for like an hour the other day and it turned off normally. Maybe PS3's can't handle it for long periods of time when they're 1.5 years old...bummer.
Thanks again for your help mont!
