Hi, I'm having a real problem with my Playstation. I've been looking around for a solution but couldn't find one so thought I'd post here. Basically, it started with games freezing during play, I wouldn't be able to press any buttons and was forced to hold the standby button until it shut down. After a few weeks of that happening it ended up that the system would not even read a disc when I put the disc into the console and that's where I am right now. Any help would be much appreciatted. Hey, if it's a software problem then rebuilding the database within the Safe Mode menu could solve it - all the info is in the link below, although it's worth highlighting that there could be implications in choosing the wrong option.

Equally, it's a good idea to back up any saved data/media just in case something goes wrong, either onto a USB stick or external HDD

If it's the laser or drive acting up then you've got a few options:

- You can attempt it to fix the problem yourself by installing a new drive or laser (check out http://www.consoleparts4u.co.uk/ )
- You could get a third party repair (£70 at consoledoctor.co.uk),
- You could get a refurbished equivalent console from Sony (usually £110)
- You could opt for a new slim (around £190 depending on the store)

After 4.40 update games won't read and others freeze in the middle of play I expected better from playstation.....
