PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Hi

Got my new PS3 slim yesterday (fat PS3 blu-ray dead).

Attempted the transfer using the instructions stated here:

http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/support/network/detail/item250047/Use-the-data-transfer-utility/

And am getting the error:

"no ethernet cable plugged in or the recieving ps3(the new slim one) is turned off"

Did the following:

1) No problems with the cable (connected it directly to the router and internet works).

2) Deactivated both internet and media connection (wireless off) on both PS3s

3) Ensure the new PS3 slim PSN account both video & games are ACTIVATED and obviously the old PS3 account deactivated.

I've also ensure that the PS3s were restarted when the cable was connected.

But to NO avail!! am still getting this annoying error message above.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

several people report similar problems.

trying different cables (even thought the cables work in normal use) seems to usually fix it :smileyhappy:

* YLOD? * *PSN Connection Problems?* *Blu Ray Problems

And we weren't even testing for that..

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

The Sony instructions in the manual and on-line neglect to tell you to disable your internet connection.  Having wireless interent enabled seems to override the ethernet connection.  Have each PS3 internect connection disabled and it should work.

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Hi all

Thanks so much for the feedback. But still don't work :-(

Both PS3s work fine wired to the router using the LAN cable, i.e. I can connect to the internet with no problems.

Both PS3s internet & media were disabled.

And still could no migrate the old PS3 over.

I purchased a Cat6 Belkin cable (GBP 25++) and still doesnt work :-((

Only thing I can think of is the firmware version (3.21 on both PS3s) which could be the root cause of it all..

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Its nothing to do with the wireless, I had the same issue.

You need to buy an Ethernet cross over cable, a std one doesn't work

see here:-

And dont worry if it seems to freeze for ages. Good luck

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Interesting read... but apparently others mentioned cross-cable should not be used...

Furthermore the ports on both fat & slim PS3s are giga ethernet? I assume no need for cross cable?

But I'll give it a try.. will head back to Currys and see if I can exchange the cable for a cross cable version...

Alternatively, is there another way to transfer the game saves over? I heard copy protected games might not be possible, e.g. Dragon Age, etc.

[ Edited ]

A Crossover cable is just a different type of cable that allows 2 devices to be networked together. I got one for £10 in Staples yesterday. The speed of the network cards will not make any difference. Good luck.

Unprotected game saves can be copied on to a memory stick manually and copied over.

You need a cross over cable not a normal enthanet cable.
