Question:

If I do not have any PSN games/content purchased via PSN store do I still need to deactivate the Fat PS3 and reactivate it again on the Slim?

"Deactivate the PS3 system if the data to be transferred contains content that was purchased from PlayStation Store."

Both systems should be deactivated! :smileywink:

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Hi,

So leave both PS3s deactivated? thus in my situation, deactivate the slim Ps3 (Fat PS3 already deactivated). Then re-attempt Data Transfer?

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

I had the same problem when transferring data from my fatty to my slimmy.

What (i think) worked for me was shutting down both systems, disconnecting the cable, and starting them up again, then do data transfer (knowing that it's not going to work) so that it "registers" that there is definitely no cable connected. Then once you get the error message, shut down both ps3's, and switch off at the mains.

Then connect the wire making sure they are securely connected, before switching the mains back on and turning on both PS3's. Try data transfer again. For me it worked straight away.

Hope that helps in someway, shape or form.

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Did you attempt the transfer with a  Ethernet X over cable or normal cable?

Your suggestion would be to:

1) Remove cable from both PS3s.

2) Start Up both PS3s.

2) Fat PS3: Go Data Transfer Utility and wait for it to error "No Ethernet cable connected..."

3) Slim PS3: Same as above but choose option 2) and wait for error message.

4) Shut down both PS3s.

5) Connect cable

6) Repeat steps 2 & 3 and hope for it to work instead?

I assume we need to disconnect from Internet & Media connection for both PS3s?

I followed the above link to the detail and still did not work.. but will attempt your suggestion tonight.

I believe it was a normal ethernet cable.

I did have a crossover cable but it was 3M long and as the cable was wrapped around itself multiple times it wouldn't work without me having to unravel the ***** thing.

Luckily we had a much shorter ethernet cable (i think) in the draw which we had used with our old router. I'm not much of a tech head so I can't be sure if it was an ethernet and not just another crossover cable, as both ends on both cables looked pretty much the same, only one worked and the other didn't.

Also, I would make sure to disconnect from the internet to avoid any more possible complications that could be contributing to the error, or simply turn off automatic sign in on your ps3s.

Hope it works for ya.

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Hi all,

Attempted all the various tips provided but still no luck.

Then decided to experiment:

As opposed to transfer from the Fat to Slim, I did the other way around, meaning Transfer from Slim to Fat (but not to commit, i.e. cancel when prompted to format the Fat PS3).

And guess what, it works.

Which is all kinda weird, i.e. I can't transfer from the Fat to the Slim, but when doing the other way round it works...

Any ideas...?

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

switch the ends of the cables around? maybe worth a shot?

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Did that too... which didnt work as well.

Then tried the following:

Decided to do a Back-Up to an external USB HDD.  Fat PS3 error:  800283E4

Then plugged in the USB HDD to the slim PS3, which worked fine.

I can only assume the Fat PS3 contains some corrupt data which cannot be copied...

Re: PS3 data transfer utility from fat to slim NOT working

Tell me about it.. guess I got corrupt data on my Fat PS3.

Tomorrow I am going to a console 'expert' store to fix the blu-ray lens and see if they can transfer the Fat to Slim PS3.

Cheers all
