Hey Peeps

Just succesfuly transfer all my stuff from my old fat ps3 to the new slim with success.

But also disconnect the internet/media for the new ps3.

It took me 2 tries.

Okay... So I turned off my internet for both. Did the restore... Neither worked. There was one account that I did not deactivate because I did not know the password. He told me it was the one that had a problem a while ago - he bought a fake gift card, got in trouble, had to pay $100+ back. I deleted the account and it worked immediately afterward.

I've had the same issue several others reported, "Ethernet cable not connected'. After multiple tries, different cables, and reviewing the various posts. The issue was waiting to connect the cable until after initiating the transfer on the old unit.

Shame on PS3 for not updating the insructions and relying on users to solve this issue....

Another thing you can do is back up all the data to an external hard drive via the system settings and then restore it unto the new PS3 Slim, It can be quite lengthy depending on the amount of data on the PS3 and external hard drive speed.

hello people my first post jusst wanted to than you guys, had all these data transfer dramas as well, with the original 60gb to new sslim 320gb, In the end followed the promt steps kept saying no cable connected or the other ps3 was off. I have ethernet cable that came with ps3 belive that is a straight one so then turned off the internet connection on both ps3's and bang away she went almost started instantly. took 41 minutes cheers

Have spent a frustration night trying to do this. After almost three hours of trying (with help from this thread) it started to transfer files. Went to bed and got up four hours later to find an error had occurred. Now I'm trying to hook up the PS3s again and guess what! No ethernet cable is detected. *sighs*

I guess it's hit and miss for when this works.

I finally got them to connect after one and a half hours. Said it was going to take two and a half hours to transfer so turned off the TV. Turned it back on after a while and I was at 45%. All well and good. Turned it back on now and an error has occurred. On the source PS3 it is 80024611 and on the new PS3 it is 80010029. 

Anyone?

I never had any bother setting it up but like I said in that other thread it failed on me like you after three times before I just gave up.

Hi englishgolfer,

I think the error codes you have mentioned indicate there may be corrupted data that cannot transfer when doing the update.

Some suggested options include backing up the PS3 data onto an external HDD, and reformatting the console. Then restoring the data back to the console for transfer. If while doing this you get corrupted data message, you will be prompted to rebuild the database. After doing this the data transfer has worked for users.

This is a long process, alternatively you can try going into Safe Mode and doing option 3 Restore File System, and then try the transfer again.
