 Hi guys not sure if this question has been asked before, and if it has then apologies.

My problem is when i turn on my PS3 (120GB Slim) its all good. The second i sign in to PSN , thats where the problem starts. If i receive a message i press the PS button to bring up the messages and it goes to a screen thats in between reading the received message and the game screen behind.

I get also whilst booting up MW3 differing loading times from the 1st screen you get from when you input the disc, to the main menu. Sometimes it'll be 2 secs, sometimes it can't even load at all forcing me to turn of the PS3 and start all over again.

Sometimes when i have to reboot the PS3 by holding down the power button till i hear the audible beeps, nothing happens, it just sits idle, with a blank screen, green light ablaze. forcing me to pull the cable out the back.

What i ideally would like to know is what is the best solution that i can fix myself as i don't want to sent it to Sony even though i will if need be.

Try running safe mode and chose option 4 Rebuild database details in the link below.

I would recommend avoiding pulling the power it can do the system serious harm. Normally holding the I/O button for 10 seconds should result in a safe shutdown in the event of freezing etc.

I tried holding down the power button sometimes and it didn't do anything. forcing me to pull out the cable.

I just did as you said and it hasn't worked. MW3 still takes for ever to load up and as a test i chose a game i don't play often and it crashed on that too. As did me not being able to read messages.

Try running safe mode again this time run option 3 restore file system. 

It may also be worth deleting and reinstalling game data and patches for any games your having problems with.

I actually did that 3 weeks ago. But this problem just keeps persisting.

If you're still having problems, I'd have to suggest starting at the top of the Safe mode menu and working your way to the bottom until either one of them fixes it, or you reach the end. This includes redoing things you've already tried.

It's pretty much your last resort if that doesn't work. Is the console is more than a year old?

my ps3 has been 100% for ages but since 4.11 update its terrible. lots and lots of people complaining about freezing consoles and not reading discs. especially on the old (fat) ps3 60 and 80gb.

Sort it out SONY. new update needed.

The updates don't cause the problems. Usually the problem is realised and the gamer immediately blames the last action that Sony made. Usually this is a firmware update. If we didn't have those, people would complain that the Store updates were breaking their PS3's.
