After i downloaded update 4.20 just recently and played 2k12 my screen keeps on freezing and unfreezing until such time that it totally froze after i'm about to save my new roster. So i had to turn off the system by pulling the plug and restarting my PS3. After turning it on, the screen showed the message: file corrupted, file needs to be restored. So i clicked ok and it went rhrough the process of restoring and deleting corrupted files. I thought that already fixed the problem but the previous message before keeps showing up. So i had to restore my PS3 system via safe mode. After restoring my PS3 and reformatting my storage data, i tried playing my 2k12 again but it takes too much time loading and freezes upon intro of 2k12. I have a feeling that the 4.20 system update is causing my PS3 to load forever and also the reason why my games keeps on freezing in the beginning. Has anyone encountered the same experience after 4.20? Or maybe my HDD just broke down that i have no choice but to replace it? I'm starting to run out of options on how to fix my Ps3...Hope someone knows how to figure this thing out...

Hi Ridingsolo11,

If you have gone through all the Safe Mode options and the issue is still occurring then there may be a fault with your console. 

You could try installing another HDD but I cant guarantee this will work.  Your best bet is to contact PlayStation Support for further assistance.

Pretty miffed- updated yesterday and now the console freezes mid game on cod- xbox I think from now on. Sony can you fix so we can use the console

My ps3 slim crashed out a few times also after this 4.20 update was installed tried to format it and now the game discs are not being found.it wont load any games at all.I think the lens has dust or needs realigned.

I too, have been getting the issues described above. Never had issues with the console before, but it freezes almost immediately after the system boots up and I get signed in. Though, I have been able to turn it off with the button.

Hi Jonatc87,

As SFZ advises above, Safe Mode is your best bet in this instance.

If you are able to get the console on to the stage where you can back up any data on the HDD this would be preferable. It may be there is an issue internally related to a component. This may also be down to issues on the HDD.

Therefore the Safe Mode process eliminates this, and mey get the console working normally. Go through eact step from 2, and see if the console works (NB steps 4 and 5 will cause the loss of data on there).

I upgraded to the 4.20 firmware and now I am unable to create a backup of my system. I have returned my PS3 three times in the last 3 months for one thing or another and now this.

Not true I have the same problem after update.My Call of Duty Black Ops frezzes when I start the game and when I watch Crackle and close out screen my system frezzes too.It only started to happen after update 4.20 maybe it your firmware update Sony not the hardware if people are having the same problem after update.Maybe you guys at Sony can update to fix the problem?

I'm having the same problem. My PS3 is freezing and getting disc read error almost non-stop since getting this update. I had none of this happen prior to updating so don't tell me it's my console. I've already tried system file restore. Got any other ideas?
