my PS3 updated its software today, and now when I insert a game into the Dvd Drive, the screen just goes black, and stays that way, if I put the game in the drive as soon as I start up the console I can get the game load screen, when I choose the option to start the game, the screen goes black again as if the console is resetting, then comes up with the game loading screen again, choose start game and it all resets again as before.

I can still play the game demo's on my hard drive, but the new software update seems to have flashed my dvd drive, I take it the new update sucks, but how can you get around it, can you go back to the previous version software, or do we have to wait for Sony to get around to sorting their updates out, all help appreciated.

im aving probs with my 320gb i insert game it starts loading then i get the eject noise but game doesnt eject ive tried doing wat people tell u 2 do on these forums but nothing seems 2 work i was told 2 format the entire ps3 but will lose everything so might try that that b4 going out spending money on new ps3 or new drive

Your inserting blu-ray games just so you know not DVD's

Have you tried any DVDs or Blu-ray movies? Do these work?

mine dont play bluerays plays dvds & cds tho

Sounds like a blu-ray laser issue. You would have to call Sony customer support for this so you can get a repair or refurbishment.

ive tried all the options in safe mode playstation is not under warranty ive seen the drives on ebay £55 refurbished might try that

The blu-ray uses a laser reader (not a drive) which is near-impossible to DIY replace, it's best to seek a repair from Sony.

my games that no longer work  and the symptoms are:-

1. all 3 Ratchet & Clank Games (each game on their own disc not the trilogy), red faction-guerrilla, resistance-fall of man, lego pirates, uncharted 3, ghostbusters, god of war collection volume 1, and splinter cell trilogy all just go to a black screen, when you eject the disc the ps3 screen comes up again, as if it has just reset.

2. 007-quantum of solace,prince of persia-forgotten sands, assassins creed-brotherhood, lego star wars-complete saga, lego indiana jones 2, god of war 3, you get 4 screens instead of just the one screen.

3. metal gear solid 4, where the wild things are, call of duty-modern warfare 2, lego clone wars, all are garbled graphics.

4. little big planet, prince of persia trilogy, bayonetta, tombraider triloqy, come up with the loading screen, when you press the start button to play the screen goes black then the ps3 resets, and goes back to the loading screen again.

that is 25 of my games that no longer work after the software updated my PS3.

My games that still work with no problems at all are:-

enslaved, front mission evolved, unreal tournament, mercenaries 2, singularity, the sly racoon trilogy, legendary, rainbow six-vegas 2, lost planet 2, fracture, dark sector, endwar, batman-arkham city, batman arkham asylum, nier, damnation, bad company, medal of honour tier 1, bionic commando, castlevania-lord of shadows, uncharted-drake's fortune, uncharted 2-among thieves, god of war collection volume 2, adventures of tin tin, far cry 2 all work first time every time with no loading problems at all, so it's not my dvd blue ray drive, I think the software has altered something that has stopped my drive from recognising some of my games, and yet lets me play others with no problem at all.

Have you tried deleting the game data of the affected games from the game data utility?

i stripped mine down yesterday started potching round with the drive on top theres 2 black plastic sliders which were sticking moved them a few times games r loading but bluerays dont but it dont make the ejecting noise anymore so think i still got laser issue but at least i can play games 4 now
