I'm having the same problem too.It doesn't happen when I watch a blu ray or dvd or when i'm at the xmb but as soon as I load up a game like MW3 I hear all outside noise being transmitted through the headset and it's pretty annoying.I love the improvements to the internet browser but this needs to be fixed or at least give us an option to disable it.

-_- I swear this mic was perfect but they had to do something to mess it up. Please include an option to be able to disactivate this evan after it is fixed. I don't want mic monitoring at all

Also having the same problem. I'm a new PS3 user and find it amplifies everything around me when I'm in game(after update). It seems like this is a wide spread problem that many people are experiencing so I hope a fix will come soon. It's not even worth playing at all. My question is, can I set my bluetooth as the input device and my headset as the output. Therefore eliminating the headset mic. Would my voice still transmit through the bluetooth mic to my headset? Or could this be a temporary fix until they have a new update?

official playstation virtual 7.1 wireless headset
Brand new in box last friday. Played all weekend till sunday night no problems(other than invalid format issues wich I believe is due to buying the cheap HDMI cable). Came home last night installed update after MW3 said I had to. After that is when I started hearing my kids playing and the washing machine running upstairs! With my headset still on! LOL. PLEASE FIX ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just about to create another thread - until I saw this one. It's good to know I'm not alone. Some confirmation from Sony would be nice.

There is a workaround for desperate people who have a Playstation Eye and want to online chat but don't want the static noise or own voice in their ears. Its not an ideal solution and I haven't tried it myself but there is no reason why it shouldnt work...
In the accessory input section, disable the stereo wireless headset and select the Playstation Eye as your input device and keep the headset as your output. In theory the Eye should now be your microphone and the headset now your speakers AND you shouldnt hear any static or hear your own voice.
Its not a great solution and you shouldn't have to do something like this but as I said before this is for those that can't live with the static and voice feedback.

I agree at first I thought it was the headset itself, I even exchanged it and same thing. Im glad it is not only me, and hopefully sony is aware if this.

I have the same issue. When I start Battlefield 3 everything is fine but as soon as I jump into a multiplayer game and my mic is activated, I hear annoying static.

Same problem...official PS3 wireless stereo headset. Dont' mind hearing my own voice, but the hissing makes my ears feel like they are going to start to bleed. Tried adjusting every chat setting, but no dice...even muting the microphone doesn't fix the hiss.
Hope they release a hotfix soon...
