I have the same problem as other people, i put the disc in and you can hear the machine trying to read it then after around 20 secs it spits the disc back out. This is only applying to games though, i tryed a dvd and it worked fine.
I actually can't believe Sony let things like this happen, between this and the PSN hacking fiasco my patience with them is wearing thin.

Well if your system is only 8 months old i would get it replaced it should still be covered by the 12 month warranty.
Out of curiosity did you guys run the update with a disc still inside the system i have read but don't know if its true but it can cause drive failures when updating.

Pls read...
It seems as though my ps3 has a mind of its own cos it read discs when it feels like...
After many attempts to solve this issue,i then found a solution..though it didnt last..
i inserted ths disc and started the game without signing into PSN or SEN..then it works.i could again but not online, the moment i signed in the screen went blank and then returned to ps3 xmb menu..
in other words this has nothing to do with my ps3 or my game but with PSN or SEN.

My ps3 is trying to read the disc and keeps making a chugging sound every few seconds then after around 20 seconds it spits the disc out. I've tryed every game i have on it and they all do the exact same thing.
Is there something wrong with the hardware or is it because of update 4.10? Nothing like this happened before the update.
Advice would be appreciated.

I am also having this problem..so i called sony and they restored it..still have the problem, what I did notice is immediatley after the update while I had to restore. It gave me the corrupted file message( which is imho the update) that was the last time I downloaded anything to this system, now my system will read plan dvd disks.but no blue ray at all..was all fine lastnite before the update..this should sit on sony's shoulders, If I have to update to access anything online, then they should take blame If after the update things start to fail..I am also out of warranty..C'mon SONY...MAN UP!

I updated yesterday with a disk in the drive.
After reeboot I can't read blurays or games. (DVD's work)
I even reformatted (19 hours) and reset factory settings but it is still shafted.
I am not a happy gamer today
