Hi,
I find the installable Photo Gallery application superb.
However, the images from picasaweb appear only in ~640x480 resolution, which renders it completely unusable.
Is there a way to change the image resolutions somewhere?
I cannot find any settings anywhere. I've also checked to see if picasa is somehow restricting the delivery of large images but I can't find anything like that.
The image itself is 2048x1375 (picasaweb has the original, since I can download it from there), yet on the ps3 it is scaled up by ~375% to fill a 1080px screen.
Also, picasaweb also supports video files but ps3's Photo Gallery says that the image is corrupted.
Does the video need to be in some specific format or is it just not supported?
(talking about Photo Gallery's picasaweb sync here as well)
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks, the video I tested with was a .mov but I think picasaweb converts it to something else anyway.
Perhaps someone can confirm that the image sizes are fine for them and it's definitely an issue with my playstation/picasaweb?

Ok, I did some testing on the picasaweb API and it seems that 512 is the default size for the images that it returns.
(eg if you make a request to https://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/api/user/US
To get a larger image you have to append "?kind=photo&imgmax=1600" to the URL. 1600 is the max width (not sure if it's possible to get the original image without hacks)
I have not inspected what sort of requests the PS3 makes to the API, but at first glance it seems that it doesn't specify the size and is just happy with the default.
Still, if anyone could confirm that they also get only 512-sized images from picasa, it would help to make sure this is an issue with Photo Gallery and that it needs a patch.

Picasa no longer supports Videos on most platforms.
Google plus Hosting is required on your google Drive for video now on most devices.
Picasa file hosting only allows redirects to 1600 for photos on the web.
1600 preview.

The original Files can be downloaded DIRECT from the site via web browser. It will allow a preview url link at full quality. but the image is still only allowed to download as it will trigger an automatic download in browsers
2160 preview

The Free video editor and uploader is required for Video uploading. but only youtube will allow you access to the content you uploaded on PS3 but at very low quality 240p normaly. Facebook did an instant U-turn on allowing PS3 users on to veiw video.
The Photo gallery app Is just that a Photo app with uploader.
The app has to work on all broadband connections so there will be downscale to make it streamable on BT ADSL.

Thanks for the reply,
I can live without video, and don't really care about uploading, but

Not sure if you're talking about uploading or downloading here; but if it's the latter, are you saying that this is by design and will never be fixed?
Thus the only way to view your photos from picasaweb is by pre-downloading them onto your ps3 hdd or removable media?

Its by design and will never be fixed. You are getting free hosting with NO ADVERTS to fund it.
Other applications on other devices force ads on you. ( Its why I reduced the amount I was using Photobucket.)
The cost Is taken at a loss by google as PR for their services.
They were added as a RIVAL service for Facebook uploading and SCE loves Facebook more than Google. ( Not there fault facebook does not like their PS3.)
Its not even brand loyality from Sony.
If Imageshack/photobucket had offered a better deal you would likely not even have a Picasa link.
Same with Google search on the XMB. "Ask" could have easily taken the contract.
Google lost Sony EU browser contract to Opera. So sony products have no brand loyalty to suppliers.

Ok, if it's by design, then I guess there's nothing I can do about it.
Not sure where I'm getting this "free hosting" you're talking about, though. All I see are facebook and picasaweb sync options and their services are working fine (at least google's) - it's the app that's not downloading a decent sized image from the hosting provider.
Brand loyalty or not, it'd be nice to see Sony try to maximise the value of their product for their users. One way to do that would be to include some additional home-entertainment-centre-like features to the gaming console, such as being able to view photos from as many popular photo-sharing networks as possible.
But meh, no big deal. I'm just saddened to see a decent app which happens to be useless for me, because of a simple thing like this.
Thanks

Picasa Is free hosting for PS3 users thats why I use it.
You upload for £nothing. no adverts
You stream for £nothing. no adverts
There are no adverts when you visit the site in PS3 or PC browser.
Completely free photo slide show hosting.
https://picasaweb.google.com/108650214932378672838
(PS3 browser compatable slide show)
You only need the Photo app for bulk Uploading and adding music.
Can't do that with facebook, photobucket, or imageshack get adverts on Idevices and PC.
Wish they did the same for Video but they don't I have to use Dropbox to be advert free but there is no PS3 uploading.
