Playstation not reading HDMI

Hi,

   I've had my PS3 for over 4 years now and its always been plugged into the same TV with HDMI the entire time.  While watching netflix the ps3 froze.  I turned it off and tried to boot it back up but now my TV won't recognize the signal.  I tried to reset the video settings by holding down the power button for a few seconds after start but I can't see anything.  I tested the HDMI cable on my laptop and the connection works.  I haven't tried an AV cable because I don't own one.  Any help or suggestons would be great.

Can you access ps3 safe mode at all?
