Please Help! Unable to play any multiplayer game

Hello,

 

Please help me with a small problem I am having for a couple of months now. Every time I want to play a game online I keep getting the "Unable to connect. Please check your network settings" message.

 

The thing is that I can connect to PSN, I can download games, browse the web, etc. The only thing I can't do is to play online- I have the same problem with all my games. Can you please help me with this issue, it's getting really frustrating and I can't think of any solution...

 

Could it have something to do with me meddling around a few times with the activate/ deactivate a system? Looking forward to hearing from you :smileyhappy:

sorry to hear that, i can tell you its nothing to do with messing round with activate/deactivate, so long as you leave it on activated, but can't add any more as am not a techie... hope someone who is though will be able to point you in right direction....

btw, you may get lucky and get a answer here, but you should post in the tech or ps3 help part, as i think more people answer... but been told it doesn't matter by someone. so up to you.

Thanks for the reply. Just one question regarding the activation/ deactivation process- I have redeemed all my game codes when the system was not activated nor deactivated... I didn't set it up because I was unaware of what it does so I figured it's better to leave it alone. After a while, I decided to activate it just to see what happens. Nothing obvious happened, so I deactivated it. You are saying that this has nothing to do with me being unable to play online anymore?

I just want to know if my problem has absolutely nothing to do with the activate/ deactivate system and if I should always leave it activated :smileyhappy:

It might be your routers firewall causing the problem. Setting up a DMZ is probably the best way to resolve this.

Nat 2 to PSN doesn't always necessarily mean a good connection to games aswell. 

Your router looks likes it's triggered the network ports to PSN fine but struggling with games. 

A lot of games especially third party games by EA and Activision use extra network ports (imagine gates opening for the game to communicate) than the PSN one's.

I understand. I tried to do what's in that tutorial but It doesn't work for me... I did everything correctly but I can't even connect to psn after that... I don't know what the heck to do anymore.

Run a connection test in PS3 network settings post back your results.

Also provide information on ISP and router you use and maybe one of us could advise and help.

If your isp is BT and you use the Bt home hub 2 then don't use a DMZ especially if you have the type a hub, as this router really doesn't handle DMZ well. Your much better off using application sharing for said games.

 

DMZ is not the best answer, i have had many different routers and none has needed a DMZ even when using multiple consoles on them at the same time, there are other solutions.

 

To get answers to these sort of problems the op is having, really should always come with basic info from them such as ISP, Router/modem make model, wired or wireless, multiplayer games they having problems with etc...

DMZ scaremongering is like old wives tales only one device is put outside the firewall ie the PS3's one. 

 

Hell you could disable your routers firewall totally let your antivirus software do the work for your PC's/laptops.
