Have you tried any other PS3 safe mode options?

no i haven't tried any other safe mode options. could there be a problem with the hard drive could it be corrupted?

If you choose "Restore PS3 system" then the drive will be formatted and everything erased. Try "Restore Default settings", then "System Update", then failing all that, "Restore PS3 System".

If none of those work, then that's everything you can possibly try short of hitting it with a hammer

Remember to backup what you can before doing the "Restore PS3 System" button as it deletes everything.

i just turned on my ps3 without the hard drive inserted but my game was in the Ps3 and it still made the noise im guessing it has to do with the disc reader or whatever the thing is.

That's my thought. It really sounds like the drive has had it. The system can't function without the hard drive unfortunately but at least it sounds like it's not faulty.

(You can always sell it off for parts )

i cannot lose hope!!!!  I don't want to buy a new PS3  i wanna keep this one and save money

do you think that the disc drive is something that should be cleaned?

Hi S_K,

My initial thought is that if the loading icon appears when there is a disc in there, and it can take over a minute to load, this could be an issue with the reader.

In theory if it was an issue with the lens, there are no official lens cleaners available (that support a slot loading mechanism), and using ones not designed for it can cause more issues.

At this stage it is worth trying Safe Mode as suggested by fi8767, options 2 till 5. Before doing this is is worth ensuring that data on the HDD is backed up just in case (option 4 and 5 will remove data). This measure will ensure that the issue doesn't lie with a software issue.

If you continue to have this issue then it will likely be an issue with the console, in which case you can contact support for further help.

Does the safe mode work for the 120GB? because i tried this before didnt work, maybe i didnt do it properly i try again and see.

It works in all versions if you're on a reasonably recent firmware. If in doubt, update to 4.11.

I get into safe mode like this:

turn off the PS3.
Hold power till it runs through all the Beeps and switches off again, then release.
Wait 5 seconds.
Hold power, it'll beep once, then again, then it'll double beep (BEEPBEEP, rather than BEEP)
Release at that point and safe mode should appear.

just done this picked the third option and it said i had a corrupted  Something and i think it is gone now i'll come back here in a couple of days to give my feedback on this if this works or not as it may work for a couple of days and then goes back to old ways.
