Quality of PS3 Refurbs

I have recently been having issues with refurbished PS3's.

Back in March I had to get a refurb as my original phat PS3 stopped reading discs. I phoned up Sony who arranged for a swap there and then a few days later.

I went on holiday a few weeks later and when I came back the Mrs gave me an' all day gaming pass'. Unfortunately after a few hours I got the dreaded YLOD. I called up Sony who said that it was probably overheated etc etc. However when I was on holiday I had turned the PS3 off at the mains and it is in a well ventelated area. They arranged another pick up however this time as they had to 'verify' the console they would send the replacement out within 7 days. They told me that this was because with the last refurb they give a new 3 month warranty. Anyway the new refurb arrived about a day later so all was good.

Until a few weeks later and again I got the YLOD!!! This time when I called Sony they sent me out a refurbed Slim which should have solved my problems.

It didn't! The refurbed Slim arrived last Thursday and on Saturday the Slim started to power down without warning. To get the PS3 working again I had to unplug from the mains to get it back on.

This time when I called Sony they said it might be a power lead issue so I swapped the PS3 lead for the one I go for the Vita. I left my PS3 on for a few hours and all looked good..that was until I tried to play a game. After about 20 minutes the PS3 powered down. I was back on the phone to Sony who arranged another swap.

This is starting to get on my nerves and I have a couple of questions:

1. Do these refurbs actually get tested?
2. How many refurbs can I get before they just have to send out a brand new PS3?
3. Why have I still been paying for CP if Sony are giving me 3 months warranty each time they swap?

Can I just say though that every person I have spoken to at Sony CS have been excellent and very helpful, if only the PS3s they sent out were as good :smileyhappy:

Re: Quality of PS3 Refurbs

Firstly, do other devices work fine in the socket that the slim ps3 was plugged into?

No, there is nothing wrong with the plug socket.
