Re: RED FLASHING LIGHT!!!!

Do you see a yellow light at any point when it turns off?

Re: RED FLASHING LIGHT!!!!

Unfortunately, this means your PS3 has broken. You'll need to call Sony customer support and inform them and they'll give you a repair/refurbishment. This usually costs between £100-£150.

The number is 0844 736 0595 for the UK

For other places see:

For future reference, there is also a guide to the lights on the front of the PlayStation 3 and what they mean? (with illustrations):

Re: RED FLASHING LIGHT!!!!

£100-£150 for your system to be repaired or replaced with a refurbished one (either may end up breaking again in 6 months), or about £160-£190 for a new slim.

I also have the YLoD, its intermittent though. Been happening for a few weeks, but now it happens 9 times out of 10. I got it working tonight by slotting a disc into the drive to turn it on. At least when my 360 died, it died, didnt hang on for weeks...

Re: RED FLASHING LIGHT!!!!

If there is anything of absolutely critical importance on the hard drive, you could search for tricks online to get it to run long enough to get your saves or important photos from it, and deactivate it while you're at it.

Search for the hair dryer trick. It's an unofficial method that damages it a bit further, but if you're replacing it youre as we'll trying it.

Just to point out that the replacements sony offer are free if the PS3 is less than a year old. :smileyhappy:

If I were in your position I would write it off and get a new one. Back your drive up and deactivate your account from it before it goes for good.  There's only so long your luck will hold out.

Re: Red Flashing Light

[ Edited ]

I went through the exact same thing in January with my 5 year old 40 Gb PS3. For me paying 150 for a fix/replacement was never an option so i lived without it untill recently when i plucked up the courage to attempt a fix. Following gilskys youtube video on how to fix ylod, i bought a heat gun for £15 (dont use a hair dryer) and a ylod kit from ebay for £10. I have no previous experience in electronics but the fix was very straightfoward. I got the PS3 working yesterday so not sure how permanent the fix will be. I may replace the thermal paste i used for arctic silver at some point though as the fan speed is faster now than it used to be and i dont want it to crash from poor cooling but it seems a higher fan speed after the fix is common.

I do recomend giving it a go as youve not got much to lose and it doesnt cost much. Hope this helps
