There's no issue with the firmware else everyone would be having the issue 
if it's not a problem when the hard drive is not in then the issue is probably that your hard drive was corrupted when installing the firmware. This can be caused by turning the ps3 off, power failure and a few other mishaps.
I'd suggest your change the hard drive that should be rectify the problem.
