Recently i had trouble starting up my ps3(which can be found here->http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Technical-Help/Please-Help/m-p/16501215#M11287)  and so i resorted to the safe mode option,However after i selected the "restore file system" option, the "preparing please wait" page apeared and after almost 2 hours of waiting the ps3 was still there.How long usualy does it take to prepare? and has anyone any suggestions of what i should do,as i want to play my games asap without losing any of my game saves.Please Help!!!!

Check the hdd light for activity.

There is no activity with the hdd light.What do you suggest i do now.

I'd shutdown the machine and try again. It should start shortly after that message. I found this YouTube video of a restore :-

Ive tried it a couple of times now and the hdd light flashed when the system turned on and flashed once when i entered the safe mode menu but hasnt flashed after i press the "restore file system" option.

That's very odd. Have you updated to firmware 4.21 yet? If not , try the update (preferably via usb stick). Maybe it'll work after that.

there is a small design on the top right hand corner of my screen that is moving freely now however it is still preparing.I own the slim model if that changes anything

Thanks for your support,however i ended up ringing the sony helpcenter and the told me that there was no other option other than to "restore ps3 system".Thanks again.
