You Tube.

[ Edited ]

Hi.

I like to watch the things like Battlefriends etc on my PS3 after gaming on my nice big 53" HDTV, but, why is it that the sound quality is terrible and that we can only watch it in 240p at the most?

I mean, if your not gaming or doing anything else then why cant we have at lease 720p?

Many thanks.

Because YOUTUBE have choosen to CRIPPLE the PS3 Browser from just plain ignoreance only.

They have hosting file agreements with firms for content only. so Can't Block the PS3 but the same small print does not stop them from making the user want to go away.

Just use ps3youtube.com it remuxes the MP4 Streams in to a mirror Site. 360p quality is free.

You can turn any youtube URL in to a PS3 URL just buy adding "ps3"

Example

Normal Youtube link =  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIKblSbvtCA

Altered link to PS3 =http://www.ps3youtube.com/watch?v=WIKblSbvtCA

Direct Stream Or Download Links are provided buy other sites. youtube relies on advert funding instead of charging domestic users so wont offer that option.

Download to watch later or HTML5 link.

https://dl.dropbox.com/sh/bfkss4slhes0pts/rU1UZmYcZ-/video/PSMS.m4v as an example only..

Re: You Tube.

Hi.

Thanks for the reply, however, I am a little confused.

Are you saying that the youtube web site knows I'm viewing a file from my PS3?

Also, whats the difference? why does it have to be crappy 240P as opposed to 720P watching it from PC or PS3?

Is it because the PS3 tends to cut out the ads or something? either way it seems somewhat backwards looking and saelf defeating.

Many thanks.

Re: You Tube.

Every site Knows exactly what you are Veiwing on. Even this one.

Every browser on every device, IDs itself to the web sites.

It was meant to enable sites to ID the browser and adjust the Site layout to match the power of the device and screen size of the viewing user.

Now... Its abused buy Web site owners to Block browsers and devices they don't want to use their site.

Hulu is the classic case were every thing that is not a PC could not display the site content via web browser.

Face book is another, After agreeing to allow PS3 useage to upload the Videos from the Video editor and uploader. They Broke the site playback of videos in PS3 browser this was due to the Extra load the PS3 users then put on there servers playing videos, 3 days after the uploaders release Face book killed the browser video playback.

Youtube use the data the PS3 provides to disable any thing higher than 240p.

If you run the PS3 though a Proxy that removes the PS3 ID, the site returns to PC quality were the PS3 plays 360p, 480p and 720p (just), this is what the ps3youtube remuxing sites do automaticly.

720p Flash streaming from a different provider for your PS3 browser.

WARNING 720p flash upscaled to 1080p By the PS3 can be unstable so if you want to turn of 1080p first it should reduce the chance of a freeze...
