i got this "your password is no longer valid" when i tried to log in around 8pm(uk)

after 3/4 attempts i was able to sign back into the network,i did not change my password or reboot the system..  

was this another attempt by someone to compromise the network/our accounts again?

There are now additional security measures which will prompt you to change your password if there has been unusual activity on your account.

Its very unlikely that anyone's account has been compromised unless someone knows your sign in ID (e-mail address)

what exactly do you mean by "unusual activity" ?

are you saying that my account may now be comprised thats why i got the message?

if so then why was i able to log back in without changing my password?

nobody has my email/pass so you now have me worried,about 1 week ago i had a problem with logging in after installing my hdd,i phoned sony customer support and the issue was resolved,could this have caused the invalid password promp?

Unusual activity can't be disclosed as that'd defy the point of having the option there.
If you can still access the account then you're probably fine, but you'll need to change your password just to be 100% certain.

When I get this message I get the OK box to click to carry on yet I cant click it and I cant use the PS button to turn the machine off. I have to turn the machine off at the on/off switch on the back and then do all the system checks for crashing the ps3.

Once back on I can log into PSN with no problems until the next time I get it

Next time you get that problem hold the front power button for 20 seconds. That will force a shutdown, as a PC or Mac would do rather than risk damage to the hardware.

It won't resolve any of your problems but should minimise the risk of future hardware damage

I reckon you should call support if you can't login and they might be able to fix it from their end.

cheers for the advice,but no offence any advice should be from an sony official (where they hiding?)

jumping in to say new security mesures are in place and the network has not been comprimised,if your account has its your fault is not good enough..  i can assure you my email and password is only known to me,i do not gameshare... as was suggested by another user and after looking on the net,this has happened before around the time the psn was hacked,another time was said to be a technical/store/psn related problem,and was not an actual attempt on people's accounts... what i want to know,was this a genuine attempt on my account or simply a technical/psn related issue?

i too got the message to change password and got psn error when tried to do so, ive also got mates on my friends list that were prompted to change passwords, every time i use the browser i get told the security of the page can not be confirmed do you wish to connect yes / no. The only place i enter my password is on my ps3 or these forums.

after having a look anymore posts relating to this issue i found this

i find it too much of a coincidence me and a couple of other users have this happen then all of a sudden theres "unplanned maintenance done" so ill ask again, was this caused by a psn related technical error or not?

I've tried resetting on a laptop and got the same message! Still can't change my password!
