i watch a lot of on demand tv on my console i:e iplayer, itc player etc, but when i watch channel 4's 4od on my system, 9 times out of 10 i get to watch the start of a programme with no problems the as soon as the programme reaches what would be an ad break, the system freezes, so i have to switch it off and let it reboot restore etc, any reason why this is, and is there a solution

It may be that the server providing the ads is not responding, are you able to watch the video on desktop alright?

the 4od app on the xmb utilises the ps3's old web browser & has been glitchy for many people.

one suggestion by mont348 is to use the new browser, so...

launch 4od app as usual

press select & choose add bookmark

exit 4od, then launch browser

press elect & choose 4od from bookmarks

4od works a lot better this way but, unfortunately this method isn't possible with itv player.

I don't get why they didn't just gut the old browser and replace it entirely. Seems rather inefficient having two identical crap browsers on the system.

I think the main reason the old browser is still there is for itvplayer which will not run on the new browser. 

I think the main reason 4OD is poor on the old tv section browser is way the javascript runs. Navigating the programme menu's on 4OD via the new is browser vastly improved rather than hit n miss in the tv section bookmark. 

I guess for now the old browser will stay until itvplayer can run on the newer browser not that it's broken anyway, but 4OD definitely has issues via the tv section bookmark.

Hi gymno74 ITV player now works in the new browser using PS3 specific url. So hopefully the cruder old browser is removed from the TV section in a future update. May also depend if other countries rely on the old browser for their TV section FW updates are worldwide.
