Re: hi

Check the disks are clean and in good condition. Free of cracks/chips/scratches etc.

Who replaced the drive laser? It may be a different part of the console or drive that's faulty, or it could have been poorly replaced, or even replaced with the wrong parts.

Re: hi

New drives and lazers unfortunately aren't necessarily what PS3's need. Because of the PS3's closed System, it performs hardware checks on startup. If the components it detects aren't exactly as they're supposed to be, then they won't be accepted by the system.
For example, if you have a 40GB PS3, and they took a BluRay drive from an 80GB or 120GB model, it would probably not work as the model number of the disk drive won't match the one that the motherboard is programmed to look for. Several members have encountered this issue before.

Another issue is when someone replacing the drive laser has knocked the drive mechanisms out of alignment meaning the drive was unable to read any disks inserted, or they've touched the laser which has smudged it and rendered it useless.

To be honest, the best thing to do would be to take it back and tell them that their repairs have not fixed it, and either get a refund and go elsewhere, or have them fix it properly.
