hello, so this morning i switched my ps3 off properly and when i switched it back on after 30 minutes or so, the blue screen apeared with message 'setting information is corrupt press x to repair'... i clicked "x" bt the screen when black and froze... tried it several times bt still no  luck.. i tried all the options from the safe mode but nothing seems to be working... it would say restoring but when its done the screen will just turn black and freeze.. same applies to updating and  ps3 restore which format the entire disk.  nothing is working... what should i do?   this is the 1st time having problems with my ps3. NB its a 120GB slim model.

Its most likely the hard drive. I would replace it and this should fix the issue.

am screwed since i didnt do any backup... if i format it with the pc, will it work? i hope its the harddrive nt the ps3
