"Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found."

So, earlier I was trying to download the newest update, Update 4.20. As it was downloading, my PS3 froze. I had to turn it off because of that. Afterwards I realized that turning my PS3 off during an update could mess it up. Now, whenever I turn it on, I keep hearing these weird noises and getting this message "Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found." Is there any way to fix this?

Have you tried taking out and re-inserting the hard drive?

Hey there,

What part of the update did it freeze at for you? I'm having the same problem, it froze @ 12% installing, i crashed it and now it gives the hard disk error.

Hi, firstly it took me over an hour to run this update . Give your ps3 the time it needs. Turning off your ps3 when updating to your hard drive will corrupt it .
So again a new update gives the economy a boost by breaking everything. Yay!
First some info . Can you get to the xmb? What messages are you getting on your ps3 , do you have access to a pc? The more details you give the quicker it will be for everyone to help you .
First thing I'd do at this point would be to back up everything (game saves / music / videos etc) to a flash pen or external (usb)hard drive . (System settings>Backup utility). ....
If you can get to the Xmb menu , you could try formatting your internal hard disk drive through ( system settings>format utility) but this will erase most of your data. ( online data such as your level on COD or trophies etc cannot be deleted).
If you can't get on to the xmb , then you need to go to the safe mode menu . But a couple of options on there will completely erase everything and ask for an update ( you may need a pc ) so be careful before " restoring to default "
Good luck backing up . Post back with lots of info . Smile .
(Worst case scenario , buy a new hdd and lose data) but we can try lots of things first .

Back up ! Back up ! Back up !
