transfering data

[ Edited ]

Just the other day, my ps3 messed up and will not stay on, so I went and got another ps3.  My question is how do I transfer everything over to my new ps3?

Re: transfering data

You'd have to back up from your old ps3.

If it won't stay on at all you cannot transfer data. If it works for a short while you should copy the saves. If you have PS+ use the cloud storage as that's the only way to preserve the copy protected saves.

If the old machine was working you would have a choice of Data Transfer or Backup & Restore. Data Transfer moves everything from one machine to the other including copy protected saves. Backup & Restore won't restore copy protected saves to a different machine.

Re: transfering data

^ To use the Data Transfer Utility both PS3's need to be in a condition where they can boot to the XMB. Also, as the guide states an Ethernet cable is required, you may find you actually need an "Ethernet crossover" cable. If you have neither type of cable, then spend the extra 50p to buy a crossover cable :smileyhappy:

(The crossover is basically a more complex cable that does things a router would normally do.)
