Been trying to update my ps3 slim for a few days now, furthest ive got is download screen then code (80710723).

there is nothing wrong with internet, don't have a memory stick and not buying one either. any suggestions or is it just keep trying till it works????

or shall i go buy an x-box!!!!!!!!!!!!!

internet on home computer is fine.

just problem with ps3. is this due to needing up date that i cant download?

just tried system restore. still same when go to update is either timed out or does not load at all and gives same error code (80710723)?????????

Are you using a wired or wireless connection?

wireless? never been a problem before

now turns itself off in one minute and have to switch it on with button not contoller

I've been having the same problem, with it either getting to 5/7% or not even starting the download.
But I seem to have managed to sort it. 
All I did was re-established internet connection via my PS3 through the network settings (If you're wireless I chose easy - wireless - scan, then the modem, and WEP on security option). I then ran a connection test. It says you require an update after the first two checklist checks (that would be 4.20), went back to system update and it downloaded fine.
