Help! i have tried eight times to download Update 4.10. The PS3 won't let me go to the online store without it. Each and every time I try, it gets all the way to 99%, then it hangs there for a long time, and comes back with this:
An error has occured. (8002F994)
I looked up this error code, and was told that there were too many connections so the thing wouldn't download fully. So I downloaded the patch from this site via PC, and stuck it on a USB stick.
The same thing happened when I installed from a USB. The Playstation said it was copying the file to the hard drive. The copy made it all the way to 99%, and then it hung for several minutes, before coming back with this:
The Data Is Corrupted
(8002F994)
Help!

Hi there,
Sorry to hear of your issues with installing the latest firmware.
If you head into safe mode / diagnostic mode and choose option #6 - you can try installing the firmware this way.
Just to be certain, the firmware needs to be in specific file structure:
ie. E:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP
It would be best to contact your local Support Centre for further information, or if you're not sure how to launch the PS3 into diagnostic mode.

Just tried this. It got to 99% and hung there for a long time, but it got through that stage and tried to install.
It then got to a diagnostic screen labeled 'System update'
And an error occured. 8002F19A
Any other ideas?

I just tried that. It said it was preparing, got to 99%, stayed there for a long time, and finally came back with a message saying:
"No Applicable data was found, insert storage media with 4.00 or later"
The update data in question was 4.11, so it stands to reason that counts as 'later'.
I'm cureently at version 4.00. Do I have to have all the updates in sequence? Do i need to install an earlier one that I might have missed?

Hey again,
No need, any firmware install file has all previous versions contained as well. The only one you'd be missing was 4.10 anyway.
Do you have access to the XMB? Or does the console start and immediately ask / prompt that it needs to update?
If you cannot access the XMB, try loading through the safe mode menu.
From standby (red light) -> press and hold the power button, and keep holding it down until the console powers itself off again.
Then press and hold again, until you hear a double beep and then let go.
It should ask you to connect your controller and press the PS button. It may then run through the install again - let it, and see if there is any difference.
If you get the menu with options #1 through #6 - connect the USB with the correctly labelled and structured file and run through option #6.
If all else fails, call us and we can see what other options may be possible for you.

Yeah, that was what I tried. The above message is talking about trying it in Diagnostic mode.
I don't actually use the store for much. Would this affect game patches or multiplayer? Because if I can still get game patches then this is signifigantly less of a problem.
If I copy all my saved data onto a usb, what would happen if I reset the whole machine to factory specs? If that'll take care of the problem then I can install the upgrade from there. I'm pretty sure that's an option in the Diagnostic list.

I have tried option 6.
It didn't work.
The message came back that either the data was corrupted (Which I can't believe since it was downloaded from this website) or that there was no update data (Which I also can't believe because it got as far as 99% preperation before it decided it couldn't find anything)
Anyone?

I did all of the above:
1) Put the system into diagnostic mode
2) Selected Option #6
3) Ran the update through a USB Thumb Drive
And... Presto! It worked!
