New Sony 7.1 headset and Logitech G35 Headset?

Hello, i open this post because i read that Sony will release a new headset wireless in september, and i saw that this headset receive the sound through a USB dongle. Until now, i (we) (all the G35 customers) can't use the headset for listen music, movies, games, etc. We only can use them for voice chat, like a common Bluetooth heaset.

My question is, for the correct use of the new Sony headset, there'll be a firmware update in september, with the release, to allow the send of all the sounds through the USB dongle. May all the G35 users be able to use our headsets in the same way, finally?

    Thank you.

Re: New Sony 7.1 headset and Logitech G35 Headset?

I add an e-mail sended by Logitech:

Unfortunately the G35 is compatible with all except PS3 and Xbox360, since Sony and Microsoft don't want it to be compatible. It uses a HID controler, so if you connect it to a Mac, Linux or a Windows without install the drivers works perfectly. I recommend that you contact with Sony for let them indicate why they don't want to include a simple compatibility library in their system.

If a moderator could throw some light in this dark issue, i'll be very grateful.

P.S.: I'm spanish, so, sorry for my bad english. The Logitech answer was in spanish too, so i had translated it as fine as i could.

Re: New Sony 7.1 headset and Logitech G35 Headset?

It is in the commercial interests of Logitech to maintain drivers for Windows and Mac and many hundreds of developers maintain the drivers for Linux for no profit because the kernel is open source and anyone who can write software can write hardware drivers for it.

It is not in Sony or MSs interests to write drivers for third party hardware. Maybe you should ask Logitech?

Re: New Sony 7.1 headset and Logitech G35 Headset?

Sorry for response so late, i didn't noticed before. I asked Logitech, and they said me that the headset will work in any computer, Windows, Mac, or Linux, but won't work in PS3 or Xbox360, cuz MS and Sony don't want to add a simple driver. The driver is done, but they (Sony and MS) don't want to add a HID controller, a library, to their system. And now that Sony will release a new firmware for the envolvent use of their own headset, i have the doubt that if then, the PS3 will recognize the Logitech headset, finally. It can't be so hard add a driver... U_U

    Thank you for your answer

Re: New Sony 7.1 headset and Logitech G35 Headset?

Slightly off topic, anyone knows what would the price be for NZ? hopefully it does not go way up to $150.. would be a bit ridiculous price.. $99.99 Dollar for now.. that would be 109.99 for NZ?
