No sound, doesn't make sense.

so im using a sherwood rd-6513 amp with a sony bravia tv.
what i gather should work, hdmi from the ps3 to the tv and an optical cable from amp to the ps3, ive changed the optical settings in ps3 and changed my speaker settings on the tv, still no sound at all.

ive tried both optical/multiple hdmi cables switching back and forth from the tv/amp nothing works.

im almost certain this should work with my set up as its not cheap.

any help would be awesome.

Re: No sound, doesn't make sense.

Why not use hdmi from PS3 - Amp then Amp - TV? You won't get full hd surround using an optical cable.

HDMI is better than optical.

Also I can't tell if that amp will play linear PCM. Try switching your PS3 to Bitstream.

Settings > Video Settings > BD audio output format

Re: No sound, doesn't make sense.

Tried what?

Tried bitstream instead of linear PCM or tried connecting using an HDMI cable instead of an optical cable?

As a guess it seems like the issue is with the amp. Do you have a DVD player with optical out? If so, put a CD in and play it, cycling through the available inputs on the amp until you hear something. Then swap the optical cord to your PS3. I'm with Rob though, why not use HDMI all the way through??

I think he already tried HDMI, TB.

Cliff,

when you connect the PS3 to the TV using HDMI do you get sound from the TV?

Re: No sound, doesn't make sense.

It really isn't that difficult to have it setup. My system is running as PS3 > HDMI Cable into a > AMP Input > HDMI cable via Amp output > HDMI cable into TV. Works fine.

Re: No sound, doesn't make sense.

If you are using the optical cable try going into settings-sound settings-audio multi output and then enable.

Im in the same boat as Jack I too have no issues but try what I have suggested see what happens.

All else fails consult the manafacturer of the AMP they may know its an issue at their end and may have a fix for it.
