Hi forum, lately it has been mildly hot in the UK and my PS3 Slim has been getting too hot when being played for over half an hour at a time. When this happens, various sounds and animations stop happening ingame. Examples of this include no guns in Black Ops Zombies and knifing sounds etc. I was wondering if my PS3 is on its way out and that I should back it up immediately or i just need to change a few settings. I currently have about 1 3/4 years left on my warranty and if it makes a difference i have been using a new headset. I leave my windows open whilst playing and room temperature rarely exceeds 22 degrees. I have tried deleting the game data and turning the AC adapter upside down but it hasn't worked. I have also tried turning my PS3 on it's side and also tried the self cleaning operation. However, the main issue is that after all of the sounds are gone and the animations stop, the whole PS3 blacks out and freezes. I try pressing the power button and it does turn off but it only does so after a long time. It makes three beeps in this time. After the PS3 has turned back on, I try and play another disc but it cannot read it. With Black Ops, it simply shows a black screen and on MW3 it says Activision then freezes. However, if I leave it for half an hour turned off it will work but only for another half an hour. Also, if it helps, when it cannot read the disk and black screens it makes a regular 1 second ticking noise.

Hi Olie,

welcome to the Australia/New Zealand forum. I can reliably vouche for the fact that my Slim operates just fine, for hours on end, even when the room is at 30C so I'd say there is something wrong with your PS3. Back it up immediately, contact your local Sony support line and send it in for warranty service.

As RandAPle4 has so helpfully said, it does sound like your PS3 could be possibly suffering a hardware issue and may require a replacement.

Please contact the support centre for your region and they will be able to assist you further.

well, that didn't work. I guess ill have to contact the Sony Support line
